Abstract

In May 2023, the combined six cities in Central Java experienced inflation of 0.22 percent with a Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 114.82. Of the six CPI cities in Central Java, all cities experienced inflation.

The main cause of inflation in May 2023 was the increase in the price of chicken eggs, air transportation, shallots, filtered kretek cigarettes, and chicken meat. The main restraints on inflation were the decrease in the price of red chilies, intercity transportation, cayenne pepper, online 4-wheeled vehicle fares, and train fares.

The calendar year inflation rate in May 2023 was 1.31 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate (May 2023 to May 2022) was 4.02 percent.
