In September 2020 Surakarta City experienced inflation of 0.09 percent with a Consumer Price Index of 104.00. This inflation was caused by an increase in prices as indicated by an increase in the consumer price index. Expenditure groups that experienced an increase in the price index were: clothing and footwear, an increase of 0.25 percent, a group of housing, water, electricity and household fuels that rose 0.09 percent, a group of equipment, equipment and routine household maintenance increased by 0.26 percent, the transportation group rose 0.43 percent, the information, communication and financial services group rose 0.04 percent, the recreation, sports and culture group rose 0.21 percent, the food supply group, beverages/restaurants rose 0.41 percent and the personal care and other services rose 0.31 percent. On the other hand, the food, beverage and tobacco group fell 0.30 percent and the health group fell 0.38 percent. While the education group is relatively stable.
The inflation rate for the calendar year (January – September) 2020 is 0.78 percent, while the year on year inflation rate (September 2020 to September 2019) is 1.46 percent.
Of the 6 cities in Central Java Province whose inflation rates were calculated, in September 2020, 2 cities experienced inflation and 4 cities experienced deflation. Inflation occurred in the city of Surakarta by 0.09 percent and the city of Semarang by 0.07 percent. On the other hand, the largest deflation occurred in Kudus at 0.08 percent, followed by Tegal at 0.06 percent, Purwokerto at 0.04 percent and Cilacap at 0.03 percent.
Of the 90 national CPI cities, 34 cities experienced inflation and 56 cities experienced deflation. The city that experienced the highest inflation was the city of Gunung Sitoli at 1.00 percent and the lowest inflation occurred in the city of Pontianak and Pekanbaru city of 0.01 percent respectively. On the other hand, the largest deflation occurred in Timika city of 0.83 percent and the smallest deflation occurred in Bukittingi city, Jember city and Singkawang city at 0.01 percent each.
