In October 2020 Surakarta City experienced inflation of 0.10 percent with a Consumer Price Index of 104.10. This inflation was caused by an increase in prices as indicated by an increase in the consumer price index. Expenditure groups that experienced an increase in the price index, namely: food, beverages and tobacco rose 0.27 percent, clothing and footwear group rose 0.21 percent, housing, water, electricity and household fuel groups rose 0.02 percent, group health was up 0.01 percent, the transportation group was up 0.10 percent, the recreation, sport and culture group was up 0.27 percent and the personal care and other services group was up 0.15 percent. In contrast, the household equipment, equipment and routine maintenance category fell 0.22 percent and the information, communication and financial services group fell 0.01 percent. Meanwhile, the education group and the food, beverage/restaurant supply group were relatively stable.
The inflation rate for the calendar year (January – October) 2020 is 0.88 percent, while the “year on year” inflation rate (October 2020 to October 2019) is 1.36 percent.
Of the 6 cities in Central Java Province whose inflation rates were calculated, in October 2020 all cities experienced inflation. The highest inflation occurred in Tegal at 0.22 percent, followed by Semarang at 0.20 percent, Kudus city at 0.16 percent, Cilacap city at 0.12 percent, Surakarta at 0.10 percent and Purwokerto at 0. 07 percent.
Of the 90 national CPI cities, 66 cities experienced inflation and 24 cities experienced deflation. The city that experienced the highest inflation was Sibolga at 1.04 percent and the lowest inflation occurred in DKI Jakarta, Cirebon city, Bekasi city and Jember city at 0.01 percent each. On the other hand, the largest deflation occurred in Manokwari at 1.81 percent and the smallest deflation in Surabaya at 0.02 percent.
