Abstract

In January 2019 Surakarta City experienced inflation of 0.39 percent with the Consumer Price Index of 129.81 higher when compared to December 2018 which experienced inflation of 0.57 percent. This inflation is due to an increase in prices as indicated by the increase in the consumer price index. The expenditure group that experienced an increase in the price index: the foodstuffs group rose 0.63 percent, the housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel group rose 0.86 percent, the health group rose 0.36 percent, the education, recreation and sports group up 0.28 percent and the transportation, communication and financial services group rose 0.31 percent. On the contrary, processed foods, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco fell 0.15 percent. While the clothing group is relatively stable.

The inflation rate for the calendar year of January 2018 was 0.39 percent, while the inflation rate for "year on year" (January 2019 against January 2018) was 2.29 percent.

Of the 6 cities in Central Java Province which calculated the inflation rate, in January 2019 all cities experienced inflation. The highest inflation occurred in Surakarta city 0.39 percent, followed by Cilacap city at 0.33 percent, Tegal city 0.31 percent, Kudus city 0.24 percent, Semarang city 0.22 percent and Purwokerto city 0.16 percent.

Of the 82 national CPI cities, 73 cities experienced inflation and 9 cities experienced deflation. The city that experienced the highest inflation was Tanjung Pandan city at 1.23 percent and the lowest inflation occurred in Pematang Siantar city by 0.01 percent. On the contrary the biggest deflation occurred in Tual city by 0.87 percent and the smallest deflation occurred in Merauke city by 0.01 percent.
