Survey of Trade Distribution Patterns (POLDIS) in 2021

May 5, 2021 | BPS Activities

Trade distribution is an economic activity that bridges production and consumption in the distribution of commodities from producers to consumers. The distribution of these commodities is closely related to the role of intermediary traders, both wholesalers and retailers, as a liaison between producers and consumers so that a trade distribution chain is formed consisting of producers, intermediaries and final consumers.

The distribution chain has an important role in the community's economy because it involves various parties in carrying out the process of economic activity in a region. From the formed chain, a trade distribution pattern can be described, which is a series of routes for the movement of a good from the producer to the final consumer in a certain area. Efficient distribution is able to move an item from producer to consumer at the lowest possible cost, so as to provide a fair share of the total price paid along with affordable prices for the end consumer.

The occurrence of quite high fluctuations and disparities in the prices of basic goods between regions is suspected to be the result of the problematic distribution pattern of the community's staple goods trade. To illustrate this problem, it is important to conduct a Trade Distribution Pattern Survey (Poldis) on several selected commodities so that the distribution pattern of each commodity in each region can be described.

In 2021, BPS will conduct a 2021 Poldis Survey. The results of this activity are expected to provide an overview of domestic trade distribution patterns as a reference for building a more efficient trade distribution system. In addition, the trade margin and total transport of the commodity under study from the producer to the final consumer can be obtained. There are 4 types of commodities covered in this survey, namely: rice, eggs, cooking oil, and sugar.
