The development of prices for goods and services in rural areas is one of the government's concerns in determining policies, especially at the household level, both in terms of production and consumption. Changes in goods and services will affect the pattern of production and consumption patterns that occur in society. In addition, changes in people's incomes, patterns of supply and demand for goods and services and services as well as changes in attitudes and behavior have also contributed to changes in people's production and consumption patterns and public consumption in recent years.

The Rural Price Survey (SHPed) is carried out by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) on a monthly basis including monitoring the development of agricultural commodity prices along with the prices of production factors used by farmers from the production side and monitoring the development of prices for goods and services consumed by households. in rural areas in terms of consumption. Monitoring the development of prices for goods and services from both sides is used to calculate NTP in the form of the Price Index Received by Farmers (It) and the Price Index Paid by Farmers (Ib). In addition, it is also used to build the Household Consumption Index ( IKRT) which is used in calculating the rate of inflation or deflation in rural areas.
