Abstract

In May 2023, six cities in Central Java combined experienced inflation of 0.22 percent with a Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 114.82. Of the six CPI cities in Central Java, all cities experienced inflation.
The main cause of inflation in May 2023 is the increase in the prices of purebred chicken eggs, air freight, shallots, filtered clove cigarettes and purebred chicken meat. The main barrier to inflation is a decrease in the price of red chilies, inter-city transportation, cayenne pepper, online 4-wheeled vehicle fares and train fares.
The inflation rate for the May 2023 calendar year is 1.31 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate (May 2023 against May 2022) is 4.02 percent.
