Abstract
In March 2021, the city of Surakarta experienced inflation of 0.16 percent with a Consumer Price Index of 105.76. This inflation was caused by an increase in prices as indicated by an increase in the consumer price index. Expenditure groups that experienced an increase in the price index, namely: the food, beverage and tobacco group rose 0.45 percent, the clothing and footwear group increased by 0.02 percent, the housing, water, electricity and household fuels group increased 0.13 percent, the group household equipment, equipment and routine maintenance rose 0.16 percent, the health group increased 0.07 percent, the transportation group increased 0.15 percent, the information, communication and financial services group increased 0.07 percent, the food, beverage / restaurant supply group rose 0.03 percent and the personal care and other services group was up 0.02 percent. In contrast, the recreation, sports and culture groups fell 0.25
percent. Meanwhile, the education group is relatively stable.
The inflation rate for the calendar year (January-March) in 2021 is 1.10 percent, while the “year on year” inflation rate (March 2021 against March 2020) is 1.93 percent.
Of the 6 cities in Central Java Province whose inflation figures were calculated, in March 2021 it was recorded that 5 cities experienced inflation. The highest inflation occurred in Surakarta at 0.16 percent, followed by Kota Kudus and Kota Semarang with 0.08 percent each, Purwokerto at 0.06 percent and Cilacap at 0.03 percent. On the other hand, the city of Tegal experienced deflation of 0.03 percent.
Of the 90 national CPI cities, 58 experienced inflation and 32 cities experienced deflation. The city with the highest inflation was Jayapura at 1.07 percent and the lowest inflation occurred in the city of Tangerang and the city of Banjarmasin at 0.01 percent respectively. On the other hand, the largest deflation occurred in Bau-Bau city at 0.99 percent and the smallest deflation occurred in Palopo city at 0.01 percent.
