In August 2020 Surakarta City experienced inflation of 0.12 percent with a Consumer Price Index of 103.91. This inflation was caused by an increase in prices as indicated by an increase in the consumer price index. Expenditure groups that experienced an increase in the price index were: clothing and footwear, which rose 0.92 percent, housing, water, electricity and household fuel groups rose 0.19 percent, equipment, equipment and household routine maintenance groups rose 0.18 percent. percent, the health group rose 0.40 percent, the transportation group rose 0.48 percent, the information, communication and financial services group rose 0.10 percent, the recreation, sports and culture group rose 0.26 percent, the education group rose 1.23 percent, the food, beverage/restaurant supply group rose 0.58 percent and the personal care and other services group rose 0.54 percent. In contrast, the food, beverage and tobacco group fell 1.02 percent.
The inflation rate for the calendar year (January – August) 2020 is 0.70 percent, while the “year on year” inflation rate (August 2020 to August 2019) is 1.09 percent.
Of the 6 cities in Central Java Province whose inflation rates were calculated, in August 2020, 3 cities experienced inflation and 3 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Surakarta at 0.12 percent, followed by Tegal at 0.09 percent and Kudus at 0.05 percent. On the other hand, the largest deflation occurred in Purwokerto at 0.12 percent, followed by Cilacap at 0.09 percent and Semarang at 0.06 percent.
Of the 90 national CPI cities, 37 cities experienced inflation and 53 cities experienced deflation. The city that experienced the highest inflation was Meulaboh at 0.88 percent and the lowest inflation occurred in Batam, Kediri and Kotamobagu at 0.02 percent each. On the other hand, the largest deflation occurred in Kupang at 0.92 percent and the smallest in Sibolga, Tembilahan, Bekasi, and Banyuwangi, each with 0.01 percent.
