Abstract

In February 2021, the city of Surakarta experienced inflation of 0.26 percent with a Consumer Price Index of 105.59. This inflation was caused by an increase in prices as indicated by an increase in the consumer price index. Expenditure groups that experienced an increase in the price index, namely: the food, beverage and tobacco group increased by 0.55 percent, the clothing and footwear group increased by 0.01 percent, the housing, water, electricity and household fuel group increased by 0.02 percent, the group household equipment, equipment and routine maintenance increased 0.14 percent, the health group increased 0.07 percent, the transportation group increased 0.13 percent, the information, communication and financial services group increased 0.06 percent, the recreation, sports and culture group rose 3.13 percent and group personal care and other services rose 0.10 percent. Meanwhile, the education group and the food, beverage / restaurant supply group were relatively stable.

The inflation rate for the calendar year (January-February) in 2021 is 0.94 percent, while the “year on year” inflation rate (February 2021 against February 2020) is 1.77 percent.

Of the 6 cities in Central Java Province whose inflation figures were calculated, in February 2021 all cities recorded experiencing inflation. The highest inflation occurred in Surakarta at 0.26 percent, followed by Tegal City with 0.25 percent, Kudus City 0.20 percent, Semarang City 0.16 percent, Purwokerto City 0.15 percent and Cilacap City at 0. 12 percent.

Of the 90 national CPI cities, 56 cities experienced inflation and 34 cities experienced deflation. The city with the highest inflation was Mamuju city at 1.12 percent and the lowest inflation occurred in the city of Tasikmalaya and the city of Sumenep, each with 0.02 percent. On the other hand, the highest deflation occurred in the city of Gunung Sitoli at 1.55 percent and the smallest deflation occurred in the city of Malang and the city of Tarakan with 0.01 percent respectively.
