Abstract

In February 2020 Surakarta City experienced inflation of 0.41 percent with a Consumer Price Index of 103.75. This inflation was caused by an increase in prices as indicated by an increase in the consumer price index. The expenditure groups that experienced an increase in the price index were: the food, beverage and tobacco group rose 1.74 percent, the education group rose 0.04 percent, the food and beverage/restaurant provision group rose 0.99 percent and the personal care and other services group rose 0 ,12 percent. On the other hand, the clothing and footwear group fell 0.04 percent, the housing, water, electricity and household fuel group fell 0.02 percent, the household equipment, equipment and routine maintenance group fell 0.36 percent, the health group fell 0.19. percent, the transportation group fell 0.83 percent and the information, communication and financial services group fell 0.06 percent. Meanwhile, the recreation, sport and culture groups were relatively stable.
The inflation rate for the calendar year (January – February) 2020 is 0.54 percent, while the year on year inflation rate (February 2020 to February 2019) is 2.43 percent.
Of the 6 cities in Central Java Province whose inflation rates were calculated, in February 2020 it was recorded that all cities experienced inflation. The highest inflation occurred in Purwokerto at 0.58 percent, followed by Cilacap at 0.49 percent, Semarang at 0.43 percent, Surakarta at 0.41 percent, Kudus city at 0.39 percent and Tegal city at 0.38 percent.
Of the 90 national CPI cities, 73 cities experienced inflation and 17 cities experienced deflation. The city that experienced the highest inflation was Sintang at 1.21 percent and the lowest inflation occurred in Pare-Pare at 0.02 percent. On the other hand, the largest deflation occurred in the city of Tanjung Pandan at 1.20 percent and the smallest deflation occurred in the city of Padang Sidempuan at 0.01 percent.
