In November 2020 Surakarta City experienced inflation of 0.17 percent with a Consumer Price Index of 104.28. This inflation was caused by an increase in prices as indicated by an increase in the consumer price index. The expenditure groups that experienced an increase in the price index were: food, beverages and tobacco, which rose 0.95 percent, the equipment, equipment and household routine maintenance group rose 0.01 percent and the health group rose 0.46 percent. In contrast, the clothing and footwear group fell 0.02 percent, the housing, water, electricity and household fuel group fell 0.11 percent, the transportation group fell 0.14 percent, the information, communication and financial services group fell 0.01 percent, the recreation, sport and culture group fell 0.36 percent and the personal care and other services group fell 0.16 percent. Meanwhile, the education group and the food, beverage/restaurant supply group were relatively stable.
The inflation rate for the calendar year (January – November) 2020 is 1.06 percent, while the “year on year” inflation rate (November 2020 to November 2019) is 1.44 percent.
Of the 6 cities in Central Java Province whose inflation rates were calculated, in November 2020 all cities experienced inflation. The highest inflation occurred in Cilacap and Purwokerto at 0.39 percent, followed by Tegal at 0.28 percent, Kudus at 0.24 percent, Surakarta at 0.17 percent and Semarang at 0.13 percent. .
Of the 90 national CPI cities, 83 cities experienced inflation and 7 cities experienced deflation. The city that experienced the highest inflation was Tual at 1.15 percent and the lowest inflation was in Bima at 0.01 percent. On the other hand, the largest deflation occurred in Kendari city of 0.22 percent and the smallest deflation occurred in Meulaboh city and Palopo city at 0.01 percent respectively.
