The internet and digitalization have changed the way people, businesses, and governments interact. Supported by increasingly sophisticated technology and infrastructure, the ease and speed offered in a digital-based economy have changed the supply and demand patterns of economic actors from various sides, such as: marketing, purchasing, product distribution; payments, and so on. Digitalization allows trade in goods and services to become bigger, easier and more varied.
The presence of E-Commerce not only contributes to changing consumption patterns and people's lifestyles, but also creates new economic opportunities for individuals to become entrepreneurs who in the future are expected to expand employment opportunities. The high potential of the digital economy has encouraged the government to continue to monitor and update regulations related to E-Commerce. For this reason, more complete data is needed and can map the development of E-Commerce in Indonesia, as evidence-based policy making in formulating policies and decision making.
In order to map E-Commerce in Indonesia, BPS continues to collect E-Commerce data based on household businesses and companies to obtain a picture of the development of E-Commerce businesses in Indonesia, from the perspective of E-Commerce business actors. The E-Commerce data collection method that will be carried out in 2024 is Go Digital, based on CAPI (Computer Assisted Personal Interviewing), so that data and information can be collected quickly, easily, and accurately. The 2024 E-Commerce Survey will be carried out in all provinces, covering 365 districts/cities. Businesses/companies covered in this survey are businesses that use the internet to sell goods and/or services and have sales transactions via the internet in 2023. The business categories covered are A, C, G, H, I, J, M, N, P (except Formal Education), Q, R, and S. The 2024 E-Commerce Survey data collection will be carried out in 2 stages, namely listing from 1-14 October 2024 and sample enumeration from 15 October - 30 November 2024.
