The
existence of modern retail is getting stronger (especially minimarkets, growing
by around 7%-11% per year), on the other hand, traditional/people markets are
increasingly marginalized. In addition, there is a golden opportunity captured
by the corporate sector by establishing a variety of modern retail businesses.
As well as an increase in income in the middle class, it results in increased
purchasing power and of course they want more convenience in shopping.
Therefore, the government is trying to boost the competitiveness of the
people's market through the people's market revitalization program.
According
to Law No. 7 of 2014 concerning Trade, three things to be achieved in the
people's market revitalization program are:
• Realizing a clean, healthy, safe
and comfortable people's market
• Improving service, quality, and
better access to public goods
• Increased turnover and able to be
competitive in a sustainable manner
In
order to realize this revitalization program, a market profile survey was
carried out with the aim of:
1.
Obtain
a profile picture of the people's market before and after the revitalization is
carried out.
2.
Analyzing
the changes that occurred in the four dimensions of the people's market
revitalization.
3.
Develop
a composite index that measures the benefits of the people's market
revitalization.
With the achievement of the three objectives above, it is hoped that the survey results can be used as material for further evaluation and policy recommendations.
