May 4, 2021 | BPS Activities

Economic development is an active effort made to improve the standard of living of a nation. Economic development itself cannot be separated from economic growth. Until now, economic growth is still believed to be a measuring tool capable of describing the success of a country's economic development. Alam measures economic growth nationally, BPS uses GDP data. Meanwhile, at the regional level, such as provinces and districts, the GRDP data is used.

There are several economic sectors that can be the motor of the GDP / GRDP value. Several sectors are the service sector and play an important role in the GDP / GRDP structure, namely the Trade sector, the Transportation and Warehousing Sector, the Information and Communication Sector, the Financial Sector and the Government Administration / Finance Sector. In 2019, BPS reported that these sectors were able to contribute 30 percent to the total national GDP.

Given the importance of this data, BPS conducts an integrated Quarterly Business Activity Survey (STKU). The field survey will begin in April 2021. This survey is designed to monitor the development of businesses / companies engaged in the trade, transportation and communication sector, financial institutions, and local government administration / finance on a quarterly basis.
