Abstract

The inflation rate in May 2022 was 0.40 percent with a Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 110.42. Of the 90 CPI cities surveyed, 87 cities recorded inflation while three cities recorded deflation. Tanjung Pandan had the highest inflation of 2.24 percent with a CPI of 116.00, while Gunungsitoli and Tangerang had the lowest inflation of 0.05 percent each with CPI of 110.63 and 109.73, respectively. On the other hand, Kotamobagu recorded the highest deflation of 0.21 percent with a CPI of 111.25 and Merauke recorded the lowest deflation of 0.02 percent with a CPI of 109.92.
Inflation occurred as the prices went up as indicated by the increase in most of the expenditure groups indices, namely: Food, Beverages, and Tobacco Group of 0.78 percent; Housing, Water, Electricity, and Household Fuel Group of 0.10 percent; Furnishings, Household Equipment, and Routine Household Maintenance Group of 0.43 percent; Health Group of 0.19 percent; Transport Group at 0.65 percent; Information, Communication, and Financial Services Group at 0.03 percent; Recreation, Sport, and Culture Group at 0.30 percent; Education Group at 0.01 percent; Food and Beverage Serving Services/Restaurant Group at 0.54 percent; and Personal Care and Other Services Group at 0.32 percent. On the other hand, Clothing and Footwear Group recorded a deflation of 0.20 percent.
The year-to-date inflation rate (May 2022 compared to December 2021) was 2.56 percent, and the year-on-year inflation (May 2022 compared to May 2021) was 3.55 percent.
The Core Component increased by 0.23 percent in May 2022. The year-to-date inflation rate of the Core Component (May 2022 compared to December 2021) was 1.63 percent. The year-on-year inflation of the Core Component (May 2022 compared to May 2021) was 2.58 percent.
