In March 2020 Surakarta City experienced inflation of 0.01 percent with a Consumer Price Index of 103.76. This inflation was caused by an increase in prices as indicated by an increase in the consumer price index. The expenditure groups that experienced an increase in the price index were: clothing and footwear, which rose 0.29 percent, the housing, water, electricity and household fuel groups rose 0.15 percent, the equipment, equipment and household routine maintenance group increased by 0.28 percent, the health group rose 0.06 percent, the transportation group rose 0.04 percent, the education group rose 0.03 percent, the food and beverage/restaurant provision group rose 0.12 percent and the personal care and other services group rose 0.28 percent . In contrast, the food, beverage and tobacco group fell 0.33 percent and the recreation, sports and culture group fell 0.08 percent. Meanwhile, the information, communication and financial services groups were relatively stable.
The inflation rate for the calendar year (February - March) 2020 is 0.55 percent, while the year on year inflation rate (March 2020 to March 2019) is 2.24 percent.
Of the 6 cities in Central Java Province whose inflation rates were calculated, in March 2020 there were 5 cities experiencing inflation. The highest inflation occurred in Cilacap at 0.06 percent, followed by Purwokerto at 0.05 percent, Kudus at 0.04 percent, Semarang at 0.02 percent and Surakarta at 0.01 percent. In contrast, the city of Tegal experienced a deflation of 0.02 percent.
Of the 90 national CPI cities, 43 cities experienced inflation and 47 cities experienced deflation. The city that experienced the highest inflation was the city of Lhokseuamwe at 0.64 percent and the lowest inflation occurred in the city of Pekanbaru, Surakarta city and Surabaya city of 0.01 percent each. On the other hand, the largest deflation occurred in the city of Timika at 1.91 percent and the smallest deflation occurred in the city of Tangerang at 0.01 percent.
