Abstract

In August 2021, Central Java experienced a deflation of -0.01 percent with a Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 106.11. Of the six CPI cities in Central Java, two cities experienced deflation and four cities experienced inflation.

The main cause of deflation in Central Java in August 2021 is the decline in prices for cayenne pepper, air transportation, red chili, shallots, and online 2-wheeled vehicle fares. The main barrier to deflation in Central Java is the increase in the price of cooking oil, filter kretek cigarettes, tomatoes, general practitioner fees, and academies/universities.

The inflation rate for the calendar year in August 2021 is 0.57 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate (August 2021 against August 2020) is 1.42 percent.
