In July 2020 Surakarta City experienced a deflation of 0.03 percent with a Consumer Price Index of 103.79. This deflation was caused by a decline in prices as indicated by the decline in the consumer price index. The expenditure groups that experienced a decrease in the price index were: the food, beverage and tobacco group, down 0.43 percent, the health group down 0.11 percent, the transportation group down 0.16 percent and the information, communication and financial services group down 0.03 percent. On the other hand, the clothing and footwear group rose 0.32 percent, the household equipment, equipment and routine maintenance group rose 0.08 percent, the recreation, sports and culture group rose 0.17 percent, the food supply, beverage/restaurant group rose 0. 56 percent and the personal care and other services group rose 0.14 percent. Meanwhile, the housing, water, electricity and household fuel groups and the education group did not experience changes in the price index.
The inflation rate for the calendar year (January – July) 2020 is 0.58 percent, while the year on year inflation rate (July 2020 to July 2019) is 1.07 percent.
Of the 6 cities in Central Java Province whose inflation rates were calculated, in July 2020 all cities experienced deflation. The largest deflation occurred in Purwokerto at 0.20 percent, followed by Cilacap at 0.17 percent, Semarang at 0.10 percent, Kudus at 0.09 percent, Tegal city at 0.05 percent and Surakarta at 0.03 percent.
Of the 90 national CPI cities, 29 cities experienced inflation and 61 cities experienced deflation. The city that experienced the highest inflation was the city of Timika at 1.45 percent and the lowest inflation occurred in the city of Jember and the city of Banyuwangi, each at 0.01 percent. On the other hand, the largest deflation occurred in Manokwari city of 1.09 percent and the smallest deflation occurred in Gunung Sitoli city, Bogor city, Bekasi city, Luwuk city and Bulukamba city at 0.01 percent each.
